Dr. Jenkins, a member of the faculty of the George
Washington University since 1981, is currently Associate Professor and Chief
Psychologist in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences and
Clinical Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology.
Dr. Jenkins received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1972
from the University of Maryland with a double major in Psychology and
Sociology. He was
awarded a Master's Degree in Psychology by Loyola College in 1974, and a PhD in
Biological Psychology with a focus in neuropsychology by the University of
Oklahoma Health Sciences Center in 1979. Before receiving his doctorate, Dr. Jenkins worked as a
research assistant in a psychophysiology laboratory at the Maryland Psychiatric
Research Center, and later as the onsite director of an experimental
neuropsychology lab at the Oklahoma City Veteran's Administration
Hospital. Dr. Jenkins completed a post doctoral program in Clinical Psychology at the Oklahoma
State University, and served a post doctoral internship in Clinical Psychology
at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center.
Since completing his education and joining the George
Washington University Medical Faculty Associates, Dr. Jenkins' clinical interests have developed along three
lines: Psychological and
neuropsychological assessment and treatment; applications of cognitive and behavioral treatments for
anxiety disorders (especially obsessive compulsive disorder), mood disorders, insomnia,
adult ADHD and habit disorders; and, stress management and behavioral
medicine/behavioral health. As an
experienced therapist, Dr. Jenkins operates from a cognitive and behavioral
framework to offer practical, effective, problem oriented and evidence based
approaches to help his clients.
In addition to coordinating the psychological and
neuropsychological assessment service, Dr. Jenkins had directed an APA
accredited pre-doctoral internship in clinical psychology for 12 years, has
mentored post doctoral fellows in neuropsychology, and teaches in both medical
and residency programs within the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral
Sciences.
